Here at Faith we have a number of life groups. Some meet monthly, some semimonthly and others on a weekly basis. Consisting of any where from 5 to 12 members these groups vary in ages and personalities.
Many meet in members’ homes. Some meet in the church building. Time together usually consists of prayer and praise requests, a discussion of a topic or current study material, some refreshment and a general conviviality among members. Jesus calls us to be in relationship with Him and with other followers and to help and support each other. This can often be accomplished best in small communities called Life groups. We must recognize that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ. Iron Sharpens Iron - This group is for men. It is led by Steve Benford and meets on the second Sat. of the month at the church, 8AM. All generations are represented and welcome. The stated goals of this group are to share real life faith and beliefs, have open and honest conversations, learn from other’s experiences, give mutual support and establish lasting friendships. Ragamuffins - An eclectic group of men and women, many of whom belong to choir. Meeting from 5-7PM on Wednesdays at the church, the evening begins with a meal followed by study, praise and prayer. Choir membership is not a prerequisite of group membership. The Kindred Spirits - Meet the second and fourth Sundays from 5PM - 6:30. The group’s leaders are Candy and Bruce Zelle. It is a multi-age group consisting of couples as well as individuals from various backgrounds. Currently meeting in members’ homes, a light snack is served. Discussions are lively and present many differing view points leaving participants with much to think about. The Night Owls - Meeting twice a month on Thursday evenings at 7PM in the home of it’s leader, Judy Brown, this group consists of ladies who have been devoted members of the church for some years. Membership however, is open to any age or development of spirituality. A recent service project involved helping a young man from an Indian Reservation with college expenses. The Rainbow Group - Seasoned seniors meeting the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month, this group is led by Bill Lindoo. They meet at the home of Geneva Mills in Aurora who is a most gracious hostess. Woman To Woman - Although a small group consisting of woman of the “middle” years, it welcomes woman of all ages to join them in lively discussion and fellowship. The group is led by Deb Haugen and meets on the first Thursday of the month at 7PM. Splash - A group for couples as well as single parents in their middle years. This group meets monthly on Saturday evenings at members’ homes and is led by Greg Spears. In their meetings members share thoughts and feelings relating to the topics such as our place in God’s world, our role among the Christian community and how we should serve God. NPR-Digressers - Consists of couples with children both young and old but welcomes singles of any age who wish to know Christ more intimately. This group meets twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays at 4PM. The contact person is Mark Carlson. Off site babysitting is available.
Desperate Housewives - Unlike the name suggests, this group’s members are not all desperate nor are they all housewives. Ages range from 30’s through 70’s and consist of easygoing ladies who try not to take themselves too seriously, but love doing life as well as Bible study together. The group meets every other week at the church, Thursday evenings from 5-6PM. Contact person and group leader is Kelly Schell. For more information as to how to join a group or form oneof your own, please contact the Life Group Coordinator, Joyce Koretke, at lifegroups@discoveringfaith.com.
